Portable Arraigned in Court Over Assault and Theft Charges, Denied Bail

Controversial singer Portable was arraigned on Monday at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge, including assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed to TheCable Lifestyle that the charges relate to a series of incidents involving the singer, including an alleged assault on his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, as well as other individuals.

The arraignment follows the release of a viral video on Sunday showing Portable in police custody. The video was reportedly linked to a complaint filed by Ashabi Simple, who accused the singer of assault. According to authorities, the alleged assault occurred at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State on New Year’s Day. The prosecution stated that the singer attacked Ashabi Simple, several police officers, and other individuals during the incident.

In addition to the assault charges, Portable is accused of stealing a Mercedes Benz E300 valued at approximately ₦12 million, which belonged to Ileyemi Damilola and was reportedly obtained from Wally Dex Auto. Other victims named in the case include Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

During the court proceedings, Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. Although she was not present in court, her family members provided accounts of the incident. The police also accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, while she was carrying out her official duties.

After hearing the testimonies, the presiding judge denied Portable bail. The judge explained that the police officer who was allegedly assaulted must be present in court before any ruling on bail could be made. This decision ensures that all evidence is properly reviewed before the singer is granted release.

The case has drawn widespread attention on social media, particularly following the viral video of Portable in custody. Many fans and observers have expressed shock at the allegations, while discussions continue over the legal proceedings and the singer’s potential consequences. The court is expected to continue hearing the case in the coming days, with further testimonies and evidence to be presented.
