Abuja, Nigeria. Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, has categorically denied reports suggesting he is set to marry former First Lady Aisha Buhari, describing the rumours as false, baseless, and entirely impossible.
The story gained traction after a supposed wedding invitation card began circulating widely on social media platforms. The card claimed to announce a wedding between Pantami and Mrs. Buhari but contained no official details, date, or verifiable information, raising immediate doubts about its authenticity. Despite this, the rumour quickly generated discussions, speculation, and online debates.
In an interview with PRNigeria, Pantami expressed his surprise and disappointment over the circulation of the story. He emphasized that late President Muhammadu Buhari was like a father figure to him, while Mrs. Buhari is regarded as a mother figure. Pantami described the allegation as disturbing and highly disrespectful, given the deep personal and professional relationship he had with the late president and his family.
“Aisha Buhari is a mother to us. It is disturbing that such a story could be fabricated. President Buhari was like a father to us, and his wife is regarded as a mother. Such a claim is not only false but impossible,” Pantami said.
Pantami also used the opportunity to caution the public against the spread of misinformation on social media platforms. He warned that unverified reports not only damage the reputations of individuals but also undermine public trust in news and social media, stressing the need for responsible sharing of information.
Social media users had speculated about the alleged wedding following the viral invitation card, prompting comments, jokes, and debates across platforms. Many questioned the authenticity of the card, citing the absence of key details, while others shared the story without verification, contributing to the rapid spread of the false narrative.
By addressing the rumours publicly, Pantami hopes to set the record straight and put an end to the speculation regarding his personal life. He urged Nigerians to exercise caution, verify facts, and avoid sharing unverified information, emphasizing that fake news can have serious personal and societal consequences.
The former minister’s remarks highlight ongoing concerns about the impact of misinformation in the digital age, where social media can amplify baseless claims and create unnecessary controversy around public figures. Pantami’s firm denial is intended to reassure the public and reaffirm respect for the late President Buhari and his family.
