Police in Harare, Zimbabwe, are investigating a fatal domestic incident in the Glen Norah suburb after a man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife in the early hours of Christmas Day.
The deceased, identified as Levy Mautsa, reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds at the couple’s home following a dispute that began late on Christmas Eve. According to police, the disagreement was triggered when Mautsa confronted his wife over supper not being ready on time.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that the argument escalated, with Mautsa allegedly assaulting his wife using open hands and damaging her mobile phone. The violence drew the attention of neighbours, raising alarm in the normally quiet residential area.
A neighbour, Blessing Chengeti, intervened around midnight after the disturbance spread outside the couple’s room. The intervention temporarily calmed the situation, and both parties returned indoors. However, the calm was short-lived, and tensions resurfaced in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Several hours later, the wife reportedly contacted a workmate and claimed she had attacked her husband. Police said she confessed during the call to stabbing Mautsa three times with a kitchen knife and urged the workmate to check on him before fleeing the scene.
When officers arrived at the residence, Mautsa was found dead with severe stab wounds to his neck, left shoulder, and back. A kitchen knife, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered from the garden outside the house.
Mautsa’s body has been taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could help locate and apprehend her.
The incident has sparked shock and concern in Glen Norah, highlighting the potential dangers of domestic disputes escalating into fatal violence. Neighbours described the couple as generally quiet, and the sudden tragedy has left the community deeply unsettled.
Police have urged families and individuals involved in domestic disagreements to seek help through legal or social services to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing that violence should never be used as a solution.
