Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai, with strong aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force, have eliminated several senior Boko Haram commanders during carefully coordinated airstrikes in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted on December 25, 2025, after credible intelligence reports revealed the presence of terrorist leaders and fighters converging in the area. Security sources said the mission was designed to disrupt insurgent activities, degrade command structures, and prevent planned attacks on nearby communities and military positions.
According to counter insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the first airstrike neutralised at least ten Boko Haram fighters, including high profile commanders identified as Abul Kaka, Ibn Mu’azu, Abu Muhammad, Ba Alhaji, Bakura, Modu, Abu Hassan, Kaka Alai, Abba Yakariye, and Bamusa. These individuals were believed to be directly involved in coordinating attacks and logistics for the group within the Bama axis.
Another senior fighter, identified as Ubaida, was critically injured during the strike. Shortly after the initial bombardment, Nigerian Air Force fighter jets carried out a follow up operation that killed three additional insurgents who were reportedly attempting to regroup and flee the area.
Security sources further disclosed that most of the terrorists eliminated were loyalists of Bafu, a notorious Boko Haram leader who has remained active in the region despite sustained military pressure. Military assessments described the operation as a significant setback for Boko Haram, noting that the loss of multiple commanders would weaken coordination, morale, and operational effectiveness within Bafu’s faction.
Although authorities reported that the immediate security situation in the area remains relatively calm, they cautioned that insurgent groups are unpredictable and may attempt retaliatory attacks. As a result, troops have been placed on heightened alert, with continuous air surveillance and ground patrols ongoing to track and neutralise any remaining threats.
The latest operation forms part of a broader military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, restoring peace, and ensuring the safety of civilians across Nigeria’s North East region.
