In a bizarre twist to a daylight crime, suspected burglars in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa, helped themselves to a meal of chicken and cool drinks during a house break-in on Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025.
According to a report by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), officers were dispatched to the residence on Saunders Circle after receiving distress calls about a burglary in progress.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the intruders had forced open the rear door and burglar gate to gain access to the property. Inside, the house had been ransacked, with several valuables missing, including a flat-screen television, an air fryer, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
But what shocked the homeowner and responders even more was the discovery that the suspects had apparently taken time to prepare and eat food during the burglary.
“The suspects are believed to have used the microwave to heat chicken, which they consumed along with cool drinks found in the fridge,” RUSA confirmed in a statement.
Reports also indicate that the burglars attempted to remove the refrigerator from the premises but were unsuccessful.
RUSA said the incident occurred in broad daylight and is currently under investigation. No arrests have been made at the time of reporting.
Residents in the area have since been urged to remain vigilant, ensure that all entry points to their homes are secured, and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
