The Lagos State Police Command has opened a full-scale investigation into the gruesome killing of Afesomu Amos, a 38-year-old commercial motorcyclist from Ajara-Vetho, Badagry, whose dismembered body was discovered in Ade-Odo, Ogun State, days after he was declared missing.
Amos, described by neighbors as a hardworking and peaceful family man, was last seen on October 24, 2025, after dropping off a passenger at Erekiti. According to family members, he had called his wife around 7:30 p.m. to inform her that he was heading home. That call would be the last time anyone heard from him.
Shortly afterward, his phone went off, and all efforts to reach him proved futile. His wife and relatives grew increasingly worried when he didn’t return home that night. By the following morning, a search party was organized by friends, colleagues, and community members in Badagry. Sadly, their search ended in heartbreak.
Days later, investigators from the Lagos State Police Command traced Amos’s motorcycle to a group of men attempting to sell it. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the case, and during interrogation, one reportedly confessed that the motorcycle had been handed to them by another accomplice. This revelation widened the scope of the investigation.
In a joint operation between detectives from the Ikeja and Badagry Police Divisions, the main suspect was tracked down to Makoko, Lagos, after days of surveillance and intelligence gathering. The suspect later led investigators to Ikogale-Obakobe, Ado-Odo, a remote area in Ogun State, where the mutilated remains of the missing motorcyclist were finally discovered.
Confirming the development, Samuel Afesomu, the victim’s elder brother, said the family had been kept informed throughout the process.
“On Thursday, police told us that another suspect had been arrested. Then, on Friday, we got the painful call that my brother’s body had been found. It’s something no family should ever go through,” he said.
The tragic discovery has left the entire Badagry community in shock. Neighbors and fellow motorcyclists have been mourning Amos, describing him as a kind, God-fearing man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family.
His widow, now left to care for six young children, broke down in tears while speaking about the devastating loss.
“He was everything to us. I don’t know how to take care of the children alone. I’m pleading for help so I can continue my small business and support my family,” she said.
The Lagos State Police Command has since confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities say efforts are being intensified to track down other suspects connected to the crime and uncover the motive behind the brutal killing.
Community members are calling for justice and increased security for commercial motorcyclists, who have increasingly become targets of robbery and violent attacks along border communities between Lagos and Ogun States.
As the investigation continues, the family of Afesomu Amos is appealing for public support, prayers, and justice for their loved one.
“We just want justice for Amos,” his brother said quietly. “He didn’t deserve to die like this.”
