Ooni of Ife Confirms Gradual Movement of Terrorists into Southern Nigeria

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has confirmed that some terrorist elements are gradually moving into the southern region of Nigeria.

The monarch made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday, Naija News reported.

According to the Ooni, the South-West region is prepared to confront the invaders directly and repel them.

He said, “Yes, we have discovered that, and that is the truth, and that is the reason why we are coming together. We are enforcing and strengthening our local guards, we are very strong. We, traditional institutions, we are very strong when it comes to that.

“And this current government has already worked and declared that they will work with the local hunters. We have forest guards now, they are very efficient. We do not joke with them. We are going back to our ancestral roots.

“So, for us, we are facing it headlong. We have intelligence information. They are coming closer to us, and we are going to send them back. It has happened in the past, in the 18th Century, in the 17th Century. We have actually done that. We have never been conquered, and it is not going to happen again.”

The Ooni’s statement highlights the role of traditional institutions in security matters and underscores the commitment of southern communities to defend themselves against the encroachment of terrorist groups.
