The Kano State High Court sitting at the Audu Bako Secretariat has continued the murder trial of Ayuba Sani, who is accused of killing his friend, Ibrahim Dan Larai, in Tumfafi town in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred last year, reportedly arose from ongoing disagreements between the two friends. According to the prosecution, the conflict centred on the deceased’s habit of waking the defendant at dawn for morning prayers at the mosque. Despite repeated warnings from Ayuba Sani to stop the practice, the disagreements persisted until the confrontation that allegedly led to the fatal stabbing.
During the hearing on Thursday, the state prosecutor, Barrister Amina Uba, called two additional witnesses to testify in support of the prosecution’s case. Assistant Superintendent of Police Cindu Cuwa and Inspector Buhari both described the investigative steps taken after the incident. They explained how evidence was gathered, how statements were obtained and how the case was prepared for court.
Their testimonies were taken under oath and, after cross examination, the court discharged both witnesses. With their appearance, the total number of prosecution witnesses presented so far has increased to three. This indicates that the prosecution is steadily advancing its case.
The presiding judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, reviewed the progress made and adjourned the matter. The trial is scheduled to continue on January twenty nine, twenty twenty six. During the next sitting, the defendant will have the opportunity to open his defence, as he has maintained a plea of not guilty to the charge of murder.
The case has attracted public interest because of the unusual motive and the close friendship between the accused and the deceased. Further proceedings are expected to provide more details about the events that led to the tragic encounter.
