Rapper and fashion icon A$AP Rocky has shed light on his experience working alongside Denzel Washington and Spike Lee in the upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest — and revealed why fans don’t hear new music from him as often.
In a recent interview with Perfect Magazine, Rocky described collaborating with the Hollywood legends as “a dream come true.”
“Their dynamic alone is just historical,” he said. “So I’m honored to be an honorary member of their legacy.”
Rocky, who plays Yung Felon in the film, also revealed that Spike Lee gave him full creative freedom to shape his character.
“[Spike Lee] let me develop my character full-throttle,” he explained. “They put me in the right environment that felt familiar and nostalgic. It allowed me to take the character to different places, borrowing stories from people I grew up around. I appreciate that he was receptive to all my changes.”
When asked about his long-awaited album Don’t Be Dumb, Rocky admitted he’s in no rush to release new music just for attention.
“Everything I do is based off building legacy,” he said. “That’s why I’m not so eager to just drop, drop, drop. I don’t do things just to stay relevant. I try to do creative, ambitious things that satisfy me.”
The rapper also told GQ earlier this year that fans are likely tired of hearing album updates — and he completely understands.
“I think people are tired of hearing about the album,” he said. “They just want to hear some sh– to see where I’m at. I promise I got some new sh– in store. I’m challenging myself every time.”
With Don’t Be Dumb still in the works, Rocky continues to blend music, film, and fashion into a carefully curated legacy — one deliberate move at a time.
