Yobe SIEC Chairman, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, Passes Away After Brief Illness

The Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Dr. Mamman Mohammed, has passed away.

According to multiple reports, Dr. Mohammed died on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu after a brief illness.

His passing has thrown the state’s political and administrative community into mourning, as colleagues and public officials pay tribute to his years of service and dedication to the development of democracy in Yobe State.

The funeral prayer (Janazah) for the late SIEC Chairman is scheduled to hold today, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Emir of Fika’s Palace in Potiskum town.

The Fika Emirate Council confirmed the news of his death in an official post shared via its Facebook page, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi Raji’un.
The death has occurred of Dr. Mamman Mohammed (Shamakin Fika), Chairman, Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
He died at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital after an illness.
May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus, Amin.”

Dr. Mamman Mohammed, who held the traditional title of Shamakin Fika, was a respected public servant and academic known for his commitment to fair and transparent electoral processes in Yobe State.

Under his leadership, the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission oversaw local government elections and worked to strengthen public confidence in grassroots democracy.

Colleagues have described him as a “principled administrator” and a man who served with humility, dedication, and integrity. 

Since news of his passing broke, condolence messages have continued to pour in from political figures, traditional leaders, and community members across the state.

Many have taken to social media to express their grief and pay respects to a man widely regarded as an honest and hardworking public servant.

“Yobe has lost a man of great integrity,” one tribute read. “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and reward his service with eternal peace.”

May his soul rest in peace, and may Almighty Allah grant his family, friends, and colleagues the strength to bear this loss.
