Two police officers have been injured following an attack by unidentified gunmen who ambushed their patrol vehicle along the Ogobia–Adoka Road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to Zagazola, which confirmed the incident through reliable sources on Monday, the ambush took place around 9 p.m. on Sunday night.
The officers, identified as Inspector Amos Okoh and Inspector Joseph Adowebo, were reportedly carrying out a routine patrol when the assailants suddenly opened fire on their team. The unexpected gunfire left both men wounded before they could call for backup.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Adoka swiftly mobilized another patrol unit to the scene. The responding team successfully rescued the injured officers and transported them to the Teaching Hospital in Otukpo for urgent medical attention. Reports indicate that both officers are currently responding positively to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators of the attack. In a statement, the Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the assailants and bring them to justice.
The Command also appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives by providing any useful information that could aid in the investigation.
