A disturbing case in the United Kingdom has ended with two brothers receiving lengthy prison sentences for abusing a 12-year-old girl one of them fathering her child while knowingly living with HIV.
According to a report by The Mirror (October 11, 2025), Patrick Leonard, 23, and his younger brother, Lannee Ksigwa, 19, were convicted at Bradford Crown Court after a jury found them guilty of multiple serious offences against the young girl.
Judge Andrew Hatton condemned their actions as “deeply irresponsible and exploitative,” stating that the brothers manipulated a vulnerable child for their own gratification.
The court heard that Leonard, despite knowing his HIV-positive status, engaged in repeated abuse and showed no concern for the potential harm to the child. DNA tests later confirmed that he was the biological father of the victim’s baby, while medical tests thankfully revealed that the girl did not contract HIV.
In a pre-recorded statement, the young survivor whose identity remains protected by law described the severe emotional and psychological damage she has endured as a result of the brothers’ actions.
Prosecutors detailed how both men acted in a calculated and coercive manner, taking advantage of the victim’s vulnerability. Judge Hatton said Leonard’s conduct represented a “serious breach of trust” and noted a pattern of manipulative, controlling behaviour.
Leonard admitted to two offences prior to trial and was later convicted of additional counts, while Ksigwa was found guilty of two similar offences.
- Patrick Leonard received 24 years in prison, plus one year on licence.
- Lannee Ksigwa was sentenced to 12 years in a young offenders’ institution.
Both must serve at least two-thirds of their sentences before they can be considered for release and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Detective Inspector Simon Howroyd of the Bradford District Child Safeguarding Unit praised the survivor’s bravery:
“These individuals are dangerous and have caused severe harm. The survivor’s courage in reporting the abuse has ensured that justice has been served.”
