Tragedy in Taraba: One Killed, Three Injured as Mentally Unstable Man Attacks Residents

A peaceful night turned tragic in the Buzzah community of Zing Local Government Area, Taraba State, when a man believed to be mentally unstable reportedly went on a violent rampage late Saturday night, killing one person and leaving three others critically injured.

The suspect, identified by locals as Mr. Denis, was well-known in Zing town for his eccentric behavior. Residents often saw him dressed in white native attire, roaming the streets and pretending to preach. However, on this fateful night around 11:00 p.m., he allegedly attacked unsuspecting residents with dangerous weapons.

One of the victims, Hammanyaro Cha’ayonli, lost his life in the incident, while three others including two vigilante members sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Zing General Hospital.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the vigilante members had previously tried to restrict Denis’s movements after several residents expressed fear over his behavior. “He always saw them as a threat because they limited his freedom to move around,” one resident explained.

Community members also revealed that the suspect had often been seen carrying light weapons, a matter that had long caused unease among locals.

Security agencies have since launched an investigation into the attack to determine what triggered the violence. Authorities have assured residents that measures are being put in place to prevent further incidents and restore calm in the area.
