Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has addressed her long-standing rift with fellow artiste Seyi Shay, offering clarity on the viral salon confrontation that made headlines several years ago.
Speaking on the Off Air with Gbemi O and Toolz podcast released on Saturday, the Somebody’s Son crooner revealed that the feud originated from a diss track and unverified claims that she had tried to block opportunities for other female artistes.
Tiwa, however, dismissed the allegations, maintaining that she has always supported women in the music industry.
“If you do something to me, I will let you know. I don’t have to do it online,” she said. “I’m not going to pretend we’re cool in a salon when you did a diss track.”
The singer said she was shocked by reports that she had sabotaged the careers of Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani, describing the rumors as painful and baseless.
“I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it. I would never do that — I’m so pro-women,” Tiwa emphasized.
Tiwa also revealed that contrary to the accusations, she had once lost a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay.
“When I got pregnant with Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign, Longer Throat, and Shay was booked on it,” she explained. “I wasn’t mad. I just got in the gym and got my body back.”
The viral salon altercation between Tiwa and Seyi Shay in 2021 remains one of the most talked-about moments in Nigerian pop culture. While Seyi Shay had previously stated she attempted to make peace, Tiwa’s recent comments suggest the rift may have stemmed from deeper industry misunderstandings and hearsay.
