Sosoliso Airlines crash survivor and motivational speaker Kechi Okwuchi has celebrated her 36th birthday with a heartfelt message of gratitude and reflection on life’s blessings.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Okwuchi expressed appreciation for her family, friends, and continued good health.
“I’m 36 today! I’m just grateful for you all, grateful for my friends and family, grateful to be here, to be sound of mind and body. That last part alone is the ultimate blessing tbh. Happy birthday to me,” she wrote.
Okwuchi is one of only two survivors of the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash that occurred on December 10, 2005, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, claiming 108 lives, most of them students from Loyola Jesuit College.
She sustained severe burns and has undergone more than 60 reconstructive surgeries since the tragedy. Over the years, Okwuchi has become a global symbol of resilience, using her story to inspire others through motivational speaking and advocacy for burn survivors.
Her journey has taken her from hospital recovery rooms to international stages. She gained global recognition after appearing as a contestant on America’s Got Talent, and later as a TEDx speaker, where she shared messages of healing, faith, and self-acceptance.
In 2024, Okwuchi published a memoir detailing her path of recovery and faith, further cementing her legacy as an inspiration to millions around the world.
Fans and well-wishers flooded social media with birthday messages, describing her as “a living miracle” and “a true testimony of God’s mercy.”
As she marks another year, Okwuchi’s message remains consistent to live fully, love deeply, and remain grateful for every day of life, regardless of its scars.
