The global Christian community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, one of Nigeria’s most respected evangelists and spiritual leaders.
According to multiple credible sources, including The Guardian Nigeria and TheCable, Rev. Ukpai passed away on October 6, 2025, in Lagos, at the age of 80. His family officially announced his passing, describing it as a “glorious transition of a faithful soldier of the cross.”
Born in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Rev. Ukpai rose from humble beginnings to become a towering figure in Pentecostal Christianity. Through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, founded in the 1970s, he spearheaded countless crusades and revival meetings across Africa, Europe, and North America, drawing massive crowds and inspiring millions with his messages of faith, healing, and national unity.
Over the course of a ministry that spanned more than five decades, Rev. Ukpai became known for his deep biblical teachings and reports of miraculous healings. His programs often brought together people from all denominations and social classes from the poor to public figures seeking spiritual transformation.
Tributes have continued to pour in from church leaders, political figures, and ordinary Nigerians who described him as a “father of faith”, “mentor,” and “national treasure.”
Funeral arrangements are yet to be officially announced by the family.
