A prominent Plateau religious leader, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has expressed deep frustration and sorrow over the continuous killings of his church members by suspected Fulani militants in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The clergyman, who serves as the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), raised the alarm during a mass burial held on Wednesday for 13 victims killed in fresh attacks on Rachas village (Heipang District) and Rawuru village (Fan District) on Tuesday night.
Speaking in anguish, Rev. Dachomo said he has been forced to bury his members almost every day, lamenting the failure of security agencies to act on early warnings that could have prevented the bloodshed.
“Look at these young people we have come to bury today. What crime did they commit to deserve being killed in this manner? I am tired of burying my members every day,” he cried out.
The cleric revealed that he had earlier received intelligence reports about planned attacks on Nyerwai village, which he promptly shared with security agencies. He even posted a video online tagging the relevant authorities, urging them to take action.
However, instead of investigating the threat, the Nigerian Army reportedly dismissed his warning, labeling it as “false and misleading information” aimed at creating panic.
Rev. Dachomo said the tragedy could have been avoided if security operatives had responded swiftly to his alerts. He urged authorities to take proactive measures whenever credible intelligence is shared, stressing that human lives are being lost daily due to negligence.
“If they had listened when I raised the alarm, these people might still be alive today,” he lamented.
