Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned the public about fraudulent online businesses and promotional campaigns falsely claiming his endorsement.
In a statement on Wednesday, Obi said his attention had been drawn to individuals and groups exploiting his name and image to promote online ventures and investment schemes. He emphasized that he has no connection whatsoever with any of these activities.
“I wish to state categorically that I have no connection with any of these endorsements or promotional activities. At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or online platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes or profit-making ventures,” he said.
Obi described these acts as fraudulent and misleading, noting that they are designed to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians. He urged members of the public to exercise caution when they encounter online content linking him to business deals, giveaways, or investment opportunities.
He further advised Nigerians to verify information about him only through his official and verified communication channels, stressing that genuine updates about his engagements or statements will always come from those platforms.
“Genuine information concerning me or my engagements will continue to be communicated through officially verified channels,” he added.
The warning comes amid an increase in fake endorsements and scams circulating on social media, where fraudsters use the names of public figures to lure victims.
