MC Recounts Disturbing Incident at Anambra Wedding: Bridesmaids Left Stranded After Groom Refused to Pay for Hotel
A wedding master of ceremonies (MC) has shared a shocking account from a wedding in Anambra State, where the groom allegedly refused to pay for the bridesmaids’ accommodation after the event — leaving them stranded late at night.
According to the MC, the bridesmaids had travelled all the way from a polytechnic in Delta State to attend their friend’s wedding and arrived a day early for the bridal shower. However, after the event ended around 7 p.m., the groom reportedly ordered everyone to vacate the hotel, saying he wouldn’t pay for an extra night.
“I was shocked. The groom was shouting that he wouldn’t pay for the rooms again,” the MC said. “How do you expect young ladies who travelled that far to return to Delta State by 7 p.m., knowing how unsafe Nigerian roads are?”
The MC described the experience as “unacceptable and disheartening,” adding that the situation created opportunities for misconduct.
“Some groomsmen that had rooms were saying, ‘If you’re going to sleep in my room, I go touch you o.’ That is shameful and dangerous,” he revealed.
Expressing frustration, he continued:
“Why are people wicked to asho ebi girls? If you can’t take care of your bridal train, don’t invite them at all.”
He advised couples to plan weddings responsibly and avoid unnecessary extravagance:
“If you don’t have the financial capacity to accommodate people, use your family members or cousins as asho ebi girls.”
The viral story has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians condemning couples who focus on showiness over safety and hospitality.
