A 51-year-old married man, identified as Moses Abraham, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly killing his lover, Cecilia, after accusing her of being unfaithful.
The tragic incident occurred late Friday night in the Legislative Quarters area of Jos, the Plateau State capital. According to sources, Abraham, who works as a long-distance tanker driver and is a father of five, had reportedly gone to visit Cecilia unannounced after hearing rumours that she was entertaining other men in his absence.
Upon arriving at the apartment, which he allegedly rented for her, Abraham was said to have met another man inside. Shocked and enraged, he reportedly left the house and went to a nearby bar, where he drank alcohol while waiting for the man to leave.
Eyewitnesses revealed that later in the night, Abraham returned to the apartment, locked the door behind him, and confronted Cecilia over the alleged infidelity. The confrontation escalated into a violent quarrel, during which Abraham allegedly beat her mercilessly. He was said to have slammed her head repeatedly against the wall before using a stone to crush her skull, leading to her death on the spot.
A neighbour, who spoke to journalists under anonymity, described the relationship between the two as troubled but said no one expected it would end in such a gruesome tragedy.
“The man lives in Bidi-Bidi and is married with four children. Cecilia was separated from her husband, and it was Abraham who rented the apartment for her. She operated a small salon close by. From what we gathered, he often visited her whenever he was in town,” the neighbour said.
According to the witness, Abraham later confessed that he acted out of anger after catching Cecilia with another man, claiming he had been hearing rumours about her unfaithfulness for weeks.
After the fatal attack, Abraham reportedly went straight to the Nasarawa-Gwom Police Station, where he confessed to killing Cecilia. He then led officers to her residence, where they found the lifeless body. The corpse was subsequently evacuated and deposited at the mortuary, while the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.
A police source confirmed the arrest and said the case is under investigation. The Plateau State Police Command is expected to issue an official statement in the coming days, as the suspect remains in detention.
