Man Remanded in Prison for Allegedly Killing Father Over Marriage Dispute in Kano

A Kano State High Court, sitting at Court No. 7 and presided over by Justice Amina Adamu, has ordered the remand of Aminu Ismail, a resident of Ganbai village in Ajingi Local Government Area, over the alleged killing of his father, Dahiru Ahmad.

According to reports, the tragic incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between Aminu and his late father after Ahmad reportedly opposed his son’s decision to take a second wife. The disagreement, which began as a verbal exchange, allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation that resulted in the father’s death.

The case, which has shocked residents of the Ajingi community, highlights the growing tension in some rural areas where issues surrounding marriage, polygamy, and family authority continue to cause conflict. Witnesses from the community reported that the dispute had been brewing for days before the fatal confrontation occurred.

During the court proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Sorondinki, presented the murder charge against the defendant. Sorondinki informed the court that Aminu’s actions led to the unlawful death of his father, an offence punishable under the laws of Kano State.

When the charge was read, Aminu pleaded not guilty to the allegation. The defence counsel requested bail for the accused, but the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the matter involved a capital offence and required a full trial.

After listening to both parties, Justice Amina Adamu ruled that the accused be remanded in a correctional facility pending trial. The judge adjourned the case to November 13, 2025, for the commencement of hearing and presentation of witnesses.

Meanwhile, the case has continued to generate public concern, with many describing the development as “deeply unfortunate.” Some community leaders have called for increased awareness on peaceful family conflict resolution, noting that such tragedies often arise from avoidable misunderstandings.

The Kano State Police Command is expected to provide further details on the investigation as the trial progresses.
