The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on fresh charges bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans was arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, before Justice A. O. Ogala on Monday. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge read to them in court.
According to the prosecution, the charges relate to the killing of two police officers during a kidnapping operation allegedly coordinated by Evans and his gang.
Evans, who gained notoriety as one of Nigeria’s most feared kidnap kingpins, is currently facing five separate criminal trials in Lagos courts for kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder. He has already been convicted in two cases, receiving life imprisonment sentences in earlier judgments.
The case was adjourned for further hearing, with the court directing that both defendants remain in custody pending trial.
