KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Hisbah Board has officially cancelled the planned wedding between popular TikTok personalities Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Commander of Hisbah, Sheikh Mujahideen Aminuddeen, said the decision followed an investigation that revealed the duo had falsely claimed to be in love in order to avoid legal punishment from a magistrate’s court.
Both TikTokers had earlier been charged by the Kano State Films and Videos Censorship Board for producing viral videos described as “indecent.”
The court had ordered Hisbah to facilitate their marriage within 60 days — based on their claim of mutual affection — or return them for possible conviction should the marriage not take place.
However, Hisbah has now suspended the process, citing a lack of genuine commitment between the two.
“From the beginning, we understood that the court ordered Hisbah to facilitate their wedding based on the love they claimed existed between them,” Sheikh Aminuddeen said. “But after our investigation, we discovered that the proposed marriage was not based on mutual understanding. It was merely an attempt to evade legal consequences.”
According to him, the duo admitted that their supposed relationship was only for entertainment and content creation, not an actual romantic connection.
“The board, therefore, resolved to cancel the wedding to avoid a forceful marriage that would not last. The matter will now be referred back to the court for appropriate action,” he added.
Earlier, Idris Mai Wushirya had told journalists that he told the court the viral pictures were pre-wedding photos because he feared being remanded in custody or imprisoned by the judge.
