At least nine people have been killed and several others abducted following a coordinated bandit attack on Thursday evening in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Residents described the assault as a well-planned and coordinated operation, targeting Layin Danauta village in Kuyello Ward.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed assailants surrounded the community at about 7 p.m., blocking all entry and exit routes while firing indiscriminately to scare residents.
By the time the attackers withdrew, nine bodies had been recovered from the scene, while 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Multiple sources in the area confirmed that several villagers were also abducted, though the exact number remains unclear.
Local authorities said the true extent of the casualties and abductions may not be known until search and rescue operations resume on Friday morning.
Efforts to continue the search on Thursday night were suspended due to darkness and fears that the attackers might still be hiding nearby.
Community leaders say the recovered bodies will be buried today (Friday), either before or shortly after the Juma’at prayers.
The Kaduna State Government and security agencies have not yet issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
