Legendary actress Diane Keaton, whose career spanned more than five decades, has passed away at the age of 79.
Keaton, an Academy Award winner for Best Actress in Annie Hall (1977), was celebrated for her distinctive blend of humor, vulnerability, and authenticity on screen. The role cemented her as one of Hollywood’s most beloved and unconventional leading ladies.
According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, emergency services were called to Keaton’s home on Saturday morning. Paramedics transported an individual to the hospital, and a law enforcement source later confirmed that person was Keaton. The cause of death has not yet been made public.
Beyond her acting talent, Annie Hall also introduced audiences to Keaton’s iconic and gender-defying sense of style — a mix of men’s slacks, vests, and hats that became her signature look. Her timeless approach to fashion influenced generations and remained a defining part of her public persona.
While known for her comedic brilliance, Keaton also left an indelible mark on drama, notably portraying Kay Adams-Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy, where she starred opposite Al Pacino.
In a 1997 interview, Keaton reflected on her career, saying she was “more inclined to live comfortably in the world of humor,” a sentiment that perfectly encapsulated her warmth, wit, and enduring appeal.
Diane Keaton’s legacy endures — not only through her unforgettable performances but also through her influence on film, fashion, and the art of being unapologetically herself.
