Celebrity chef and two-time Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has donated ₦2 million to support justice efforts for Ochanya Ogbanje, the 13-year-old girl whose tragic story of abuse and death continues to spark outrage years later.
Ochanya, who passed away in 2018, reportedly suffered repeated abuse from her cousin and his father while living with them. The trauma and medical complications from the abuse ultimately led to her death a case that remains a painful symbol of the fight against child abuse in Nigeria.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Hilda expressed deep sorrow and frustration over Ochanya’s ordeal, stating that “those responsible for protecting her failed her.” She added that countless other children continue to suffer in silence, calling for real action beyond online sympathy.
“Honoring Ochanya’s memory requires more than hashtags,” Hilda said. “It demands commitment to helping survivors of abuse.”
To back her words with action, Hilda announced a ₦2 million donation and invited her followers to nominate two NGOs that will benefit from the funds. She also urged Nigerians to support the cause through financial help, advocacy, or professional services, especially encouraging lawyers to volunteer with the legal team pursuing justice for Ochanya.
The gesture has drawn widespread praise online.
