Nigerian actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has sparked conversations in the entertainment industry after sharing his candid take on work-life balance, calling it a “fallacy” that often misleads creatives in pursuit of success.
Speaking during an appearance on Jay On Air, the Herd director explained that while achieving balance is important, it’s unrealistic to expect it on a daily basis — particularly for artists and entrepreneurs constantly in motion.
“Sometimes you just have to do it. I say that balance is a fallacy. But cumulatively, yes, you must live a balanced life — not a balanced day or a balanced week or balanced year, but a balanced life,” Etim-Effiong said.
The filmmaker disclosed that he had barely slept for six hours since his movie premiere, emphasizing that moments of breakthrough often require relentless dedication and sacrifice.
Despite the fatigue, he noted that his passion remains the driving force behind his work.
“Right now, there’s no time for sleep, man. Sleep for the weak,” he joked.
Etim-Effiong’s remarks have resonated with many young creatives struggling to juggle ambition, rest, and personal fulfillment. By reframing balance as something achieved over a lifetime rather than through daily perfection, the actor underscored the deeper reality of pursuing artistic excellence.
Having transitioned from acting into directing and producing, Daniel Etim-Effiong continues to inspire a new generation of filmmakers, proving that discipline, endurance, and passion often outweigh comfort on the path to lasting success.
