Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B is challenging the stigma surrounding formula feeding, emphasizing that mothers should never be shamed for choosing what works best for their families.
During a candid livestream on X Spaces on Thursday, the 33-year-old mother of three — who is expecting her fourth child — opened up about the realities of breastfeeding and why she supports mothers who rely on formula.
“Breastfeeding also takes a lot of time and some women gotta go straight to work to feed their families and take care of their kids,” Cardi said. “They can’t spend time just sitting down. Pumping takes literally your whole f***ing day.”
She added,
“Pumping is not something easy to do. There are women that gotta go to work. There are women that just have to depend on the formula.”
Partnering With Bobbie to Empower Mothers
Earlier this week, Cardi revealed that she had teamed up with Bobbie, an organic infant formula company, as its new Chief Confidence Officer. Through the brand’s “The B is for Bobbie” campaign, she hopes to promote open conversations about motherhood, work-life balance, and parental confidence.
In an interview with Vogue, Cardi shared her personal struggles with breastfeeding, admitting that it once made her question her womanhood.
“It took me two hours just to produce two ounces of milk,” she said. “Sometimes your baby wants to eat in 45 minutes, and it takes me two hours just to produce two ounces. It almost made me feel like—does it make me less of a woman if I can’t produce as much milk as the next woman? People don’t understand how frustrating it is.”
Her own experience inspired her to challenge the shame surrounding formula feeding and remind mothers that what matters most is feeding their child.
“You know what’s bad? Not feeding your kid,” she said.
Cardi also praised Bobbie for its commitment to advocating for Black and Brown mothers, noting that the brand has been “fighting every other week at the White House” to push for better maternal care.
Balancing Motherhood and Career
Cardi B is currently expecting her first child with NFL player Stefon Diggs. She already shares Kulture (7), Wave (4), and Blossom (13 months) with her estranged husband, rapper Offset.
While she plans to return to the stage in February 2026, shortly after giving birth, Cardi stressed that no woman should feel pressured to do the same.
“I don’t want people thinking I’m just heading back to work; this is my coping mechanism,” she explained. “Having your first baby really rocks your world. It is hard. And it is life-changing.”
Staying Active During Pregnancy
In a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Cardi discussed how her past pregnancies prepared her for this one.
“My second baby — he’s too big, he broke me,” she said with a laugh. “The first one, I had to stitch.”
Reflecting on her experiences, the rapper said she feels more confident and physically prepared this time.
“The third one was so easy, so I’m expecting this one to be as easy as well, in the name of the Lord,” she said. “I just did it last year — I can do it again.”
A New Chapter of Confidence and Care
As she embraces motherhood once again, Cardi B hopes her message encourages women to prioritize their mental health and confidence over societal expectations.
Her partnership with Bobbie serves as both a personal and public declaration: that every parent’s journey is valid, and feeding choices — whether breast or bottle, should never define a mother’s worth.
