Former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Wednesday, the businessman and founder of Silverbird Group said his decision was not politically motivated, but rather driven by his belief in the progressive direction of the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Murray-Bruce, popularly known as the “Common Sense Senator,” praised President Tinubu’s leadership style, describing him as a leader driven by results rather than applause, and credited him for implementing bold economic reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s future.
“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause; he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track,” he said.
The former senator acknowledged that the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians were the result of painful but necessary reforms, which he believes will yield long-term prosperity.
He emphasized that the Tinubu administration’s actions including the deregulation of the oil sector, stabilization of the naira, improved foreign policy reputation, and ongoing infrastructure development are laying the foundation for a stronger, more self-reliant economy.
“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he added.
Murray-Bruce further highlighted the administration’s infrastructural strides, citing improvements in roads, ports, airports, and housing projects as signs of tangible progress.
He concluded his statement by expressing full confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and vision for Nigeria:
“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.”
The former senator expressed optimism that within Tinubu’s full eight-year tenure, Nigeria would experience “phenomenal growth” and emerge stronger both economically and socially.
