Nigerian media personality and philanthropist Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo, popularly known as Asherkine, has revealed why he decided to stop creating binge-eating videos.
The content creator, who gained popularity for his generous acts and food-related videos, said the habit gradually made him lose control over moderation and affected his health.
Sharing his experience on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Asherkine explained that he would consume large quantities of food until he began to feel abdominal discomfort. Despite maintaining an active lifestyle, he noticed several health challenges — including heart palpitations, weight gain, fatigue, irregular sleep, and signs of high blood pressure.
He wrote:
“I genuinely enjoyed clearing up over five different meals regularly until my body told me. Even though I had an active lifestyle at the time and tried to stay fit, I lost the concept of moderation as mindless binge eating became the order of the day.
I wouldn’t stop eating until I started to feel abdominal discomfort. Despite being full, I always wanted to keep eating. Gluttony had made its way. Aside from the general discomfort, I experienced heart palpitations, excess weight gain, irregular sleep, sneaky high blood pressure count, and constant fatigue.”
Asherkine described the struggle to overcome compulsive eating as one of the toughest battles he has faced, emphasizing that gluttony is “mad underrated” and should be taken seriously.
He added:
“It’s two years after and I still chat to the pit in my tummy. If you struggle with compulsive eating disorder, shout out to you. Pay attention. I’m no health practitioner, but don’t underplay it. I’ll still make food content but definitely not in such volume.”
The post has since sparked conversations online about mental health, body awareness, and the importance of moderation, especially among content creators who take part in extreme food challenges.
