A teenager in Katy, Texas, has been left orphaned after reportedly finding her parents dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.
According to local reports, the 48-year-old woman and her 47-year-old husband were found dead inside their home on Sunday night. Authorities say the girl, who was not harmed, returned home around 10 p.m. and discovered the bodies before calling police.
Deputies arrived and pronounced both victims dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation suggests the husband fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Family members told investigators that the couple had been experiencing marital difficulties for some time and had considered divorce. However, authorities confirmed that they had never received prior reports of family violence from the home.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released publicly, pending autopsies and next-of-kin notifications.
The tragedy has stunned residents of the affluent Katy neighborhood, a quiet, tree-lined community west of Houston. Police say relatives will be interviewed as investigations continue.
Local station ABC13 reports that the teenager did not witness the shootings, while Fox 26 confirmed that no one else was at home when the incident occurred.
This case follows a similar murder-suicide last month in Madbury, New Hampshire, where a toddler was left orphaned after the deaths of his parents and siblings. In that case, the father, Ryan Long, had been battling brain cancer, and investigators believe his illness may have played a role in the tragic outcome.
Neighbors described the Long family as “perfect” and were shocked by the tragedy.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has secured the crime scene and is awaiting autopsy results. Authorities are expected to release further details once their investigation progresses.
