Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Shay has shared how deeply hurt she felt when media personality Daddy Freeze failed to personally reach out to her after her highly publicized altercation with fellow singer Tiwa Savage.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Seyi Shay revealed that she had looked up to Daddy Freeze as a spiritual guide, often visiting him for prayers when she felt low. However, his silence during that difficult time and his perceived closeness with Tiwa Savage left her heartbroken.
"When the whole situation happened with myself and you know who at the salon, a lot of people didn’t actually care to know what the source of that disagreement was. They just took sides. So many people evidently started to just take sides clearly in front of my eyes, people that I was really close with. Nobody checked in," she said.
She added that she expected Daddy Freeze, in particular, to at least call to check up on her privately:
"I felt that you of all people should have called me at least to say 'how far?' We did have a conversation on your platform but it was a public platform, it wasn’t a personal 'how far and what’s going on?' and I felt really hurt, distraught, because it was you especially. And I cried and cried and cried."
Seyi Shay further expressed her disappointment at seeing him later appear publicly supportive of Tiwa Savage, which made her question the authenticity of their bond.
"Afterwards I saw you turning it up and living it up with her, you know, making comments, and we’re not cool. And I just thought okay, this has now become something that I cannot fathom."
The singer explained that the experience opened her eyes to the reality that not everyone she considered a friend was truly there for her.
