Tension enveloped Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, on Monday after a repentant bandit, Kyoga Joka, was gunned down in broad daylight at the town’s bustling main market.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of armed men stormed the crowded market and opened fire on Joka, who had recently renounced banditry and was serving as a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Ukum. The attackers shot him multiple times, killing him instantly.
The sudden gunfire caused chaos, with traders, buyers, and passersby scrambling for safety. Shops were hurriedly shut down as panic spread across the marketplace.
