The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a fresh warning that has stirred conversation among Nigerians.
In a recent YouTube video, the cleric predicted that expired Maggi cubes and seasoning products may soon flood Nigerian markets, posing a serious health risk to millions of households.
“There is going to be expired Maggi that Nigeria will begin to buy and the Maggi will be very deteriorating to one’s health,” Ayodele said.
His prophecy has raised alarm, given Maggi’s status as a daily staple in Nigerian kitchens. At a time when food prices are skyrocketing, concerns about food safety and counterfeit goods are already pressing issues.
Consumer rights advocates and analysts are urging agencies like NAFDAC to take the warning seriously. They note that while Ayodele’s message is spiritual in nature, it mirrors real problems in Nigerian markets, where expired or counterfeit food items occasionally slip through regulatory cracks.
A Lagos-based food safety expert told reporters:
“What Primate Ayodele is saying should not be taken lightly. We’ve seen cases before where expired food products made their way onto shelves. If this happens with Maggi, the health implications could be severe.”
This is not the first time Primate Ayodele has issued a prophecy touching on national issues. While critics dismiss some of his warnings as alarmist, others believe they serve as timely reminders for authorities and consumers alike.
