The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old woman, identified as Egbule Isioma, for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Ughelli, Delta State.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest was made on August 29 during a coordinated raid on suspected criminal hideouts and drug peddling spots in Afiesere Community.
Egbule, who reportedly operates a chemist store opposite the Afiesere Town Hall, was apprehended alongside three of her apprentices: Mercy John, Favour John, and Amarachi Ngozi.
Police operatives recovered a significant quantity of drugs from the suspects. Items seized included:
- 355 bottles of CSC Codeine
- 57 rolls of 50mg Tramadol capsules
- 335 rolls of 100mg Tramadol capsules
- 33 rolls of 200mg Super Royal
- 540 sachets of Swinol capsules
- 7 backwoods
- 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis
The items were recovered from both the chemist store and the suspect’s residence at No. 31 Edile Street, Afiesere, after officers executed a search warrant.
SP Edafe disclosed that investigations revealed Isioma as a “major dealer in illicit drugs within Ughelli and its environs.” He added that the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence on the activities of known drug peddlers in the community.
The police spokesperson reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting the spread of illicit drugs, warning that the use and sale of such substances continue to have devastating effects on youths in Delta State.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured that the case will be thoroughly pursued to ensure prosecution and to dismantle similar drug networks in the state.
