Passenger Bus Somersaults on Makurdi–Yelewata Road

Tragedy struck earlier today along the Makurdi–Yelewata road when a passenger bus traveling out of Makurdi was involved in a serious accident. The vehicle reportedly lost control and somersaulted multiple times before crashing into the bush a few kilometers before Yelewata.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the accident as “horrific,” with several passengers feared injured and others possibly trapped inside the wreckage. Although some victims were seen receiving help from passersby, the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed. Residents are being urged to urgently check on relatives or loved ones who may have boarded vehicles from Makurdi earlier today.

In a twist that has sparked outrage among locals, one of the first responders who rushed to inform the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office at Yelewata alleged that officers on duty refused to mobilize immediately. According to him, the officers claimed the accident site was outside their operational jurisdiction and instead directed him to lodge the report at the FRSC Daudu unit. This delay, some residents fear, may affect the speed and effectiveness of rescue efforts.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders were yet to issue an official statement, and the condition of the passengers remains unconfirmed. Authorities are expected to release further details as rescue operations continue.
