Panic as Residents Discover Lifeless Body in Plateau Community

There was tension and panic in the Tafawa Balewa community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Monday after residents woke up to the shocking discovery of a lifeless body near the gate of Township Primary School.

The corpse, believed to be that of a middle-aged man, was found early in the morning, drawing the attention of passersby, residents, and security operatives to the scene. For many in the community, it was the first time such a gruesome incident had been recorded in the area.

A resident, Johnson Nyam, who narrated the incident, said he came across the body while on his way to work. “I was passing through the street when I noticed a large crowd gathered at the school gate, with police vehicles already stationed there. When I got closer, I saw a man lying lifeless on the ground. Some people said it must have happened during the night, but no one could explain what exactly happened,” Nyam said.

He further explained that, upon closer observation, there appeared to be unusual substances coming out of the man’s mouth and nose. This raised suspicions among residents that the deceased might have been poisoned. Nyam also suggested the victim could have been murdered in another location and his body dumped in Tafawa Balewa, since he was not recognized as a member of the community.

The discovery has left residents in fear, with many expressing concern about the growing insecurity and the need for better surveillance in their neighborhoods. Some community members lamented that the once peaceful environment was gradually being threatened by strange incidents.

Although the Plateau State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the body had been evacuated and deposited at a mortuary. He added that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identity of the victim and the circumstances leading to his death.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing useful information that could help unravel the case.
