Nigeria Marks Eid ul Mawlid as Public Holiday to Promote Unity

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Celebration and Significance

Eid ul Mawlid honors the Prophet’s legacy and offers Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on virtues like peace, humility, and compassion. Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo urged Nigerians, regardless of faith, to embody these values during the holiday.

Call for Unity and Peace

In his message, Tunji Ojo encouraged citizens to pray for national stability, support government efforts for harmony, and embrace selfless service to others. These remain the cornerstones of a united Nigeria.

By marking Eid ul Mawlid as a national public holiday, the government reinforces its recognition of Nigeria’s religious diversity. It also invites collective reflection on the values that can strengthen the nation.
