Several people sustained injuries on Monday following a road accident involving a truck carrying planks and a commercial bus at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). According to the agency, emergency responders are currently on the ground carrying out rescue operations.
A video shared by LASTMA shows one of the victims trapped beneath the tyres of the truck. Eyewitnesses at the scene fear that the individual may have died, although officials have not yet confirmed any fatalities. The exact number of casualties also remains unclear at this time.
The crash has caused significant traffic congestion in the Ibeju-Lekki axis, leaving commuters stranded. LASTMA said efforts are ongoing to remove the affected vehicles from the road and restore normal traffic flow.
Road accidents involving commercial vehicles remain a recurring challenge in Lagos, often resulting in loss of lives, injuries, and major traffic disruptions. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid such tragedies.
As of the time of filing this report, rescue operations were still underway, and updates are expected from the relevant agencies.
