The family of prominent businessman, Otunba Olanrewaju Adenuga, has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, over the alleged forceful takeover of their property in Ikeja by suspected hoodlums.
In a petition filed through their lawyers, Brookgreen LP, the Adenuga family accused nine suspects of storming their property at No. 113, Awolowo Way, Ikeja, earlier this year. The suspects allegedly vandalised fittings valued at more than ₦2 million and carted away construction materials estimated at ₦8 million.
The family further alleged that the invaders unlawfully leased parts of the premises to roadside operators and converted the site into a den for criminal activities, including the sale of Indian hemp, alcohol consumption, and cult-related gatherings.
According to the petition, engineers deployed to commence development work on the site were reportedly seized by the gang, with one suspect allegedly demanding ransom for their release. The lead suspect was also said to have demanded ₦800,000 and annual “gifts” of goats before agreeing to vacate the property.
Otunba Adenuga further alleged that he narrowly escaped a violent attack during a confrontation with the gang, even in the presence of police officers, who were said to have been overpowered.
“This is not just a case of trespass but a sustained campaign of intimidation, theft, and attempted murder that has left our client in constant fear for his life,” the family stated.
The Adenugas have urged the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspects, warning that their continued occupation of the property poses a serious threat not only to their safety but also to public order in Ikeja.
They added that the incident reflects a wider trend of brazen property invasions across Lagos, often perpetrated by gangs operating under the guise of cult groups to unleash terror on residents.
