A 15-year-old boy has been apprehended by police in Delhi for allegedly kidnapping and murdering his four-year-old neighbour in a shocking act of revenge against the child’s mother.
According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred on 17 September in the Anand Parbat area. The victim’s mother reported her son missing after he returned from tuition classes around 6:30pm and was later seen playing outside their home. When she could not find him, she alerted police.
Officers quickly began an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the neighbourhood. The video showed the missing child walking with the 15-year-old boy, who was later identified as the family’s neighbour.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Nidhin Valsan, confirmed that the accused was detained and questioned. During interrogation, the teenager confessed to luring the child away and carrying out the fatal attack.
Police said the motive stemmed from ongoing disputes between the two families, who live in the same rented premises and run shops in the area.
On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly took the house owner’s motorcycle without permission and abandoned it elsewhere. When the victim’s mother informed the landlord, the teenager’s father scolded and beat him. Angered and seeking revenge, the boy targeted her young son.
According to investigators, the accused led the four-year-old to the jungle area of Ramjas Park, where he pushed him off a cliff approximately 30 feet high. The child fell into bushes below and sustained serious injuries.
Police further alleged that the teen then struck the child with a stone before leaving him at the site and returning home.
Based on his confession, police located the injured boy and rushed him to hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the child succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.
Initially registered as a kidnapping case, the FIR has since been amended to include charges of murder. The accused remains in custody and is being dealt with under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The brutal nature of the crime has left the local community reeling. Neighbours described both families as familiar faces who had lived in the same premises for years, making the violence particularly disturbing.
Police say they are continuing their investigation while providing support to the grieving family.
