The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the rescue of a kidnap victim just hours after his abduction. The victim was freed unharmed after a coordinated operation forced the criminals to abandon him and flee.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed that the rescue followed a swift intervention by the Command’s Tactical Team, who acted on intelligence reports shortly after the kidnapping was reported.
According to Ikenga, the victim was kidnapped at Umuru village in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area, late on Monday night, September 29, 2025. His abductors quickly reached out to the family, demanding a ransom of ₦10 million. However, security operatives were immediately mobilized to track and rescue him.
“In the early hours of Tuesday, 30th September 2025, the Joint Command Tactical Team stormed the Oba/Ojoto axis following credible intelligence. The operation was aggressive and extensive, which put enormous pressure on the kidnappers,” Ikenga explained.
Faced with the advancing security team, the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes. The victim was subsequently rescued about seven hours after his abduction. He was unharmed, debriefed by police operatives, and later reunited safely with his family.
Ikenga noted that investigators are currently pursuing actionable leads to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, assuring the public that no effort would be spared in bringing them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism. He also reassured residents of Anambra State of the Command’s readiness to confront and defeat criminal elements threatening public peace.
“This successful operation underscores our zero-tolerance approach to kidnapping and other violent crimes. We urge members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and trust in our commitment to protect lives and property across Anambra State,” CP Orutugu stated.
