A 60-year-old American woman, Jacqueline Bolling Elton, has died in Warri, Delta State, while on a visit to her Nigerian companion, sparking investigations by local authorities.
According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, Elton had flown into Nigeria on September 15, 2025, to spend time with her friend, Alawode Olaide, a 39-year-old resident of Warri. The two were said to have been together for about two weeks before tragedy struck.
On Monday, September 29, at around 3:00 p.m., Elton reportedly developed sudden health complications while at Olaide’s residence. Alarmed, Olaide and neighbors rushed her to a private hospital in Otokutu, where she received initial medical attention. However, doctors later referred her to the Central Hospital, Warri, for further treatment. Unfortunately, she was confirmed dead on arrival at the facility.
Authorities were promptly alerted, and security operatives arrived at the scene to begin preliminary investigations. In line with standard procedure, Alawode Olaide was taken into custody for questioning to aid in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elton’s remains have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the precise cause of death. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), which will take over further inquiries.
The sudden death of the American national has drawn significant attention, raising concerns about the safety of foreign visitors and the need for thorough investigations. While there is no immediate evidence of foul play, police sources indicate that the outcome of the autopsy and ongoing interrogation will help shed more light on the situation.
Meanwhile, diplomatic channels are expected to be activated to notify and liaise with the United States Embassy regarding Elton’s death and the handling of her remains.
As the investigation continues, Elton’s passing has left many questions unanswered, with both her family abroad and residents in Warri awaiting further clarification on what truly transpired in her final hours.
