In a shocking development, David Moses, a security guard attached to Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja, has confessed to the brutal murder of a 14-month-old pupil and a 55-year-old nurse employed by the school. The tragic incident occurred on July 23, sending shockwaves across the Federal Capital Territory.
Moses, who was paraded before journalists by the police, admitted to carrying out the killings alongside an accomplice identified as Sunday, who is currently at large. According to the suspect, the duo initially demanded a ransom of ₦250 million from the victims' families but later accepted ₦3 million, which they allegedly collected using the nurse’s mobile phone.
“I was arrested by the police because I killed a child and a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. My friend Sunday and I demanded ₦250 million, but we later collected ₦3 million,” Moses stated during a police interview.
The victims were reported missing on the day of the incident, prompting a frantic search and panic among staff and families. Unbeknownst to the public, both victims had already been killed, even as the suspects continued to engage in ransom negotiations.
Following a disagreement over the ransom money, Moses was reportedly stabbed by his accomplice, who fled with the cash. Injured, Moses sought medical attention and later turned himself in to the authorities, leading investigators to the location where the victims' bodies had been dumped in a canal using a scavenger’s cart.
In a swift response, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command arrested the school principal, three additional security guards, and the institution’s chief security officer for allegedly attempting to cover up the crime.
Commissioner of Police, Saka Adewale Ajao, confirmed the arrests and stated that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the second suspect. He assured the public that justice would be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
“This is a deeply disturbing case that has shocked the community. Investigations are ongoing, and we are working tirelessly to bring all those responsible to justice,” said CP Ajao.
The gruesome incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for improved vetting of school security personnel and stricter oversight of private educational institutions across the country.
