Tension broke out at Alakija Cattle Camp via Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Wednesday night following a violent dispute between two cattle rearers that left both men hospitalised with machete wounds.
According to reports, the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. when Likita Amanda, 25, allegedly under the influence of drugs, attacked fellow herder Abdullahi Usman, 28, with machetes. Usman, who was said to be sick and lying down at the camp, was caught off guard by the attack.
The cattle owner, Abubakar Ibrahim, quickly raised a distress call to the police. Security operatives, working with members of the Fulani vigilante group, pursued the suspect. During the confrontation, both Amanda and Usman sustained serious machete injuries.
They were rushed to the General Hospital, Odeda, where they are currently receiving treatment.
To prevent the incident from escalating further, Alhaji Usman Bello, Amanda’s employer, reportedly joined the complainant at the hospital to pacify both sides. Policemen were also deployed to the facility to maintain order.
The Ogun State Police Command has since confirmed the incident, assuring that normalcy has been restored while investigations continue.
