A commercial driver, Olumide Lawal, has recounted the horrifying discovery of his 16-year-old son’s mutilated body, allegedly killed for ritual purposes by a suspected cultist in Igbile Ijebu, Ogun State.
On Wednesday, Lawal revealed that his son, Wahab Lawal, was declared missing on July 21, and his decomposed body was found two days later with his head, wrists, heart, and genitals removed.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the discovery in a statement by spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola, noting that the body was found along the expressway and that two suspects, Salawu Omikansola and Serefusi Agemo, have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Lawal said the search began after his mother contacted him about Wahab’s disappearance. He rushed from Ijebu-Ode to Igbile, where he joined efforts to locate the boy.
“We searched the whole community. Then on Wednesday, some women returning from the farm said they saw clothes and sandals that looked like my son’s. I rushed to the scene and found his body, it was a terrible sight,” he said.
Following the discovery, Lawal began gathering information and learned from locals that a man had been seen around 1 a.m. with bloodstains on his clothes, claiming he had slaughtered a dog for a festival. Lawal identified the suspect as Salawu Omikansola and alerted police, who arrested him.
Under interrogation, Omikansola allegedly confessed to killing Wahab on the orders of Serefusi Agemo, a traditionalist and head of the Agemo worshippers in the community. Serefusi was later arrested.
“He told police he was scared at first but was encouraged by Serefusi to go ahead with the killing. He detailed how they murdered my son and removed his body parts,” Lawal said.
Lawal has appealed to the Ogun State Government and security agencies to ensure justice is served.
“My son must not die in vain. I fear the suspects might escape justice due to their influence. I’m begging the authorities to act,” he pleaded.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Attempts to obtain their comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
