A shocking case of domestic violence has been reported in Minna, Niger State, where a woman allegedly poured boiling water on her neighbour during a quarrel, leaving the victim with severe burns.
The attack occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in a compound located along Peter Sarki Road, Tunga area of Minna.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Hadiza Bala, popularly known as Mama Sabir, allegedly poured hot water on her female neighbour after a dispute. The victim sustained serious burns to her face and chest.
Police investigations revealed that the disagreement between the two women began on August 7, 2025, when Mama Sabir accused the victim of failing to clean up children’s faeces left near her room. Although the issue was initially resolved, tensions reportedly remained high.
Just two days later, the situation escalated into violence when Mama Sabir allegedly attacked the victim with hot water.
The victim was rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment, while the suspect was immediately arrested by police.
Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the arrest, stating that the case has been charged to court on allegations of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The disturbing incident has sparked outrage in the Tunga area, with residents expressing shock that a minor dispute could escalate to such violence. Many have called for harsher penalties for domestic and community-based assaults to deter similar acts.
This case serves as a reminder of how unresolved conflicts can spiral into dangerous confrontations. Community leaders and authorities continue to emphasize the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes to prevent avoidable tragedies.
