A tragic incident occurred at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Friday, August 29, 2025, when a 53-year-old foreign tourist died after losing consciousness while riding the park’s popular Frozen Ever After attraction.
According to a Disneyland spokesperson, the man “suddenly lost consciousness” around 10:00 a.m. while on the slow-moving boat ride, located in the theme park’s Frozen-themed land, which opened in November 2023.
When the boat was preparing to dock, cast members quickly administered first aid and performed CPR. He was promptly rushed by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital, but was pronounced dead at around 11:30 a.m.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released. However, local media reports, including The Straits Times, confirmed that his wife told police he suffered from heart disease and high blood pressure, conditions for which he required regular treatment and medical check-ups.
The Hong Kong Disneyland spokesperson emphasized that the death was unrelated to any technical or operational fault with the attraction.
“The resort deeply regrets the passing of the guest and will do its utmost to provide necessary assistance to his family. Our initial investigation has shown the incident is not related to ride safety,” the statement read.
The Frozen Ever After ride, which first opened in Hong Kong less than two years ago, is one of the park’s main highlights, offering a gentle boat journey inspired by Disney’s hit Frozen film franchise. The attraction is particularly popular among families and young children.
In a notice posted on its official website, Disneyland announced that the ride will be temporarily suspended from August 31 to September 19, 2025, citing “operational adjustments.”
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong—believed to be assisting the victim’s family—has not yet issued an official statement.
The incident has sparked both shock and sympathy online, with many park-goers expressing condolences to the family while also acknowledging the quick response of Disneyland staff.
