A 50-year-old man, Hammed Yusuf Khalifa, has been arraigned before a Lagos court for allegedly killing a woman identified as Noimot, popularly known as Crown, and dismembering her body in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, the gruesome incident occurred in the early hours of July 18, 2025, at Saka Babatunde Street, Offin Igbogbo, Ikorodu, where both the suspect and victim resided.
Police reports indicate that Khalifa unlawfully killed the victim before cutting her body into pieces. Details of how the crime was uncovered remain sketchy, but authorities revealed that information leaked, leading to his swift arrest by officers in the area. He was later transferred to SCID, Yaba, for a more detailed investigation.
During interrogation, investigators reportedly found sufficient evidence linking Khalifa to the crime. He was subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrate Court on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful killing, and desecration of a corpse.
When brought before Magistrate Mrs. A.I.O. Alaka, Khalifa’s plea was not taken. This followed a motion filed by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, requesting the court to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The magistrate granted the request and ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody at a correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s review. The case was adjourned for mention until the DPP’s advice is available, which will determine whether the trial should be transferred to the High Court, which has jurisdiction over capital offences.
The formal charges against Khalifa read as follows:
- Count I: Conspiracy to commit felony to wit murder, contrary to Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
- Count II: Unlawful killing of one Noimot (a.k.a. Crown), contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the same law.
- Count III: Dismemberment and desecration of a corpse, contrary to Section 165(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
If found guilty, the offences carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty.
The horrific killing has left residents of Ikorodu shocked, with many calling for justice for the victim. The case is now awaiting the DPP’s advice to determine its next legal stage.
