Maharashtra Horror: Pregnant Woman Killed by Boyfriend, Body Dumped in Amba Ghat

A shocking case has emerged from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where a man allegedly murdered his pregnant girlfriend after she insisted on marriage. The victim, identified as Bhakti, was brutally killed and her body dumped in the Amba Ghat valley in an attempt to cover up the crime.

On August 21, 2025, Hemant Jitendra Mayekar of Mirjole lodged a missing person’s complaint with Ratnagiri police after his sister, Bhakti, failed to return home. The case was immediately taken up by Ratnagiri city police and the Devrukh police team, who began tracing her whereabouts.

Investigations revealed that Bhakti’s boyfriend, Durvas Darshan Patil, a bar owner from Khandala, killed her after she pressured him to marry her. Bhakti was reportedly pregnant at the time. To hide the crime, Patil, with the help of two associates, allegedly wrapped her body in plastic and dumped it into the Amba valley near Gaimukh.

Shockingly, after the murder, Patil became engaged to another woman. 

On Friday, a joint team of police and local rescue volunteers launched a search operation in Amba Ghat. Despite heavy rain and thick fog, around 15 youths from the Amba Valley Accident Relief Team assisted in the difficult recovery mission.

At 5:15 a.m., secured by ropes tied to vehicles, six volunteers bravely descended 60 feet into the valley and retrieved the decomposed body wrapped in plastic. The recovery operation took nearly 20 minutes.

Bhakti’s body was later identified by her brother based on her pink embroidered dress and a tattoo on her arm. Due to 12 days of decomposition, only her skull remained intact. The remains were sent to Sakharpa Health Center for postmortem examination.

The accused, Durvas Patil, was arrested along with his associates. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the murder. Authorities are also investigating Patil’s suspected role in the disappearance of another young man from Khandala nearly 10 months ago, whose body may also have been dumped in the same valley.

The case has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra, raising urgent questions about violence against women, betrayal in relationships, and the safety of vulnerable victims.

This tragedy highlights not just a single crime but possibly a larger pattern of violence linked to the accused. Police are now under pressure to thoroughly investigate his background and bring all co-conspirators to justice.
